We Need Breaks

Take a break from the world and a jump into the Word, this is the motto, this is the foundation statement of Sky speaks. I wanted God to use me and this site to allow people to unplug from the world. Everyone needs to step away from the world. The pressures, standards, negativity, the easiness of comparison, etc. I've fallen into this boat, I've felt like I didn't measure up to the standard of "enough," and slowly I began to compare myself to others, it came ever so silently. That's the hard thing with social media, news, the world in general, is your filter is off, your brain is just taking in whatever it's seeing, it may not effect you in the moment, but sometimes it all builds up and effects you eventually. This world is groaning for Christ, longing for Home. Just look, you can see. Everyone, everywhere is looking fro something to fill where they are empty, to bring peace where there is chaos, to silence the screams for help. But they're all looking to the world to satisfy, to fill, to bring peace, to help, but they'll never find it there. Because all the world sells is chaos we keep buying, poison we keep consuming, and lies we keep believing. The world does not satisfy. It leaves us emptier than when we arrived. It may gives us peace or satisfy us for a moment, but after that moment, we're left seeking again. The only one who satisfies forever, brings peace in the chaos, and fills when we are empty, is Christ alone, you can't get that in the world, you need to start seeking Christ. Until then, you'll stay empty, you'll stay unsatisfied, you'll remain overwhelmed by the chaos. If we never get a break from a world that leaves us emptier than before, that only sells poison for our souls, temptations that lure us away form Truth and from God, we will become a prisoner of the world, instead of a citizen of Heaven. Eventually when you constantly hear the same things over and over, that you aren't good enough, that your *insert any body part* isn't the right size or shape, that you don't measure up to the standards of the world, when you continuously decide to listen to the world, you will eventually believe what it is saying. Taking a break from the world means filling yourself up with God and His Truth. That's what I wanted God to use this for, I wanted to be a place God used for people to unplug, take a break, breathe, be themselves, to be reminded of the Biblical truths, which often get pushed to the side today, even if that break was only 2 minutes, I wanted to be a place people could use to escape from the world into God and His Word. I needed this reminder recently myself, to unplug, to take a break, so I deleted Instagram, my only form of social media, I needed it, it was such a weight that I didn't realize was there until I released myself of it. The pressures, the negativity, the you aren't skinny enoughs, or you aren't pretty enoughs, or you need this surgery, and you need to find your soulmate now, you need to know what you're going to study at college now, you need to go to this/that super expensive college that is going to leave you in debt with all the student loans you'll be left with, you need this, you aren't good enough, you need to change, AHHHHHHH. It. Is. Exhausting. I know. And everyone has their own struggles with what the world throws at them. I am not telling you that you need to delete social media right now, no. What I am asking of you is to examine your life, see where you might be negatively effected by things of this world, then take action, remove it from your life, fill it with Christ. For me, it was social media that was draining me, and leaving me just feeling unsatisfied with where I was in life, instead of digging into the Word and letting it fill me with life and allowing myself to rest in the fact that God has me in the seasons I am in for a reason, that I am beautiful, and I am who He says I am. God and the devil are both speaking, the question is, who are you choosing to listen to, whose voice are you allowing to echo the loudest? If you're not sure bring it to scripture, bring to a leader, a mentor, an elder at your church, bring it to authority, bring it to GOD! Remember, taking a break from the world, doesn't mean deleting social media for everyone, but for me I saw the negativity it had on it. But I take breaks from the world everyday by praying, reading the Bible, doing devotions, filling myself with Christ, He must increase, I must decrease, daily. These breaks need to be done daily. It isn't a "oh I deleted Instagram, I'm fine now, I have no issues." No, I need to make the daily decision to make God my priority, to take several daily breaks, and meet with God, right where I am. To live in a world that only sells emptiness, we need to remove ourselves at times to be refueled and refilled.
