Gold traded for thorns
A robe surrendered for a cross
A cup of wine given up for nails
Oil turned to spit
The King made low
Paying the debt of not one, but all
He knew
He knew...
The thorns must be crowned for mercy
The cross must be carried for grace
The nails must be hammered for love
Knowing His authority
He stooped low
To the lowest of lows
Not for Him
But me
That I may live
That I may see my Father one day
That sin would not define me
Chains could break
Life could be lived
Death would be defeated
Heaven could be crowded
The King chose thorns over gold, a cross over a robe
Good Friday is something many people overlook. Whether it be because it's too heavy to think about or they just want to focus on the resurrection. But, I believe that Good Friday needs to be remembered. Without the death of Jesus, there is no resurrection. Without the cross, there is no good news. Overlooking the death of Jesus, overlooks His grace, mercy, and love. Growing up, I loved Easter, still do. But when I was little, I never liked sitting in the darkness and heaviness of Good Friday. It was just so sad. We need to remember what He went through, so we can better understand the weight of our sin, and feel His overwhelming grace. He surrendered a kingly robe for a criminals cross and of we ignore that, we miss Him, and we miss His Word. But we need to realize that without Him, we would be paying the price He did. Without Him, we would spend eternity apart from Him. But God chose to sacrifice His own Son for the whole world. And Jesus willingly died, knowing it had to be done, for me, for you, for all. Know this, Jesus could have saved Himself. But He knew that it was worth it. He knew the price He would pay would get you. Good Friday is hard. But let it sit with you these next few days. I personally like to read the story of His crucifixion and I don't read about His resurrection until Easter. I let the hard sit. Because without His death, the story would be much different. With His death, we see Him endure, we see Him struggle, we see Him be real. He surrendered His crown of gold for thorns and He died. He died because of your sin. He was hung because of all you have done and will do. He was crucified because your sin was great, but His love for you was greater. Rest in the weight these next few days and then rejoice when the day comes.
