Letting Go

I have talked about being content with the season God has you in. But we also need to know how to be ok when it's time for the old seasons to pass and the new ones to make their entrance. When we only focus on the old and don't let go of it, we will never grow. New shapes us. New grows us. It's really difficult to become so comfortable in the normals of life, the "everyday" routine. But we need to be ok when it's time for a change. Personally, I struggle with certain changes. When friendships end, especially unexpectedly. When I have to change churches, when my sister moved out. These changes were not easy for me. Though, looking back, I can see how some of them were necessary. That they are a part of my story. Of course I do not see that with all changes, but I trust God has a plan with each change, each season, each chapter, with each new day, His plan prospers, and it is GOOD. Even if I can't see that yet. I think that's the hard part of seasons changing... letting go. It's hard to let seasons pass, chapters close, because you know that once it's gone, it usually stays gone. Yet, each season serves a purpose, and each seasons holds lessons. We need to be careful of getting too content. If we are too content, we get lost in the temporary. We begin to allow the things of this world to take root in our hearts and we begin to believe the temporary is permanent.

Colossians 3:2 says,

Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

2 Corinthians 4:18 says,

So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

If the devil can do anything, he'll try to make us believe that the temporary is eternal, that what is of the world is NEEDED, and is all there is to live for. He will distract us from God so that our eyes become fixed on the world and not on God. The devil shoves things in our face, covering them with outer beauty and lies. He knows our sin and weaknesses and calls us out by them. He uses them to tempt us and do all he can to pull us away from the permanent. A big way he does this is by making us "too busy" to make time for God. We allow the things of this world to take priority over God and our relationship with Him. But when we remember that God has the ability to give and take away and that He is good in both circumstances. When we see that the things of this world are temporary, our relationship with God is permanent, we put Him first, and we don't put our hope in worldly things or people. We win. When we push back the lies of the enemy and we make God a priority despite our busy lives, then we understand the importance of Him, we trust Him more, and we grow our relationship with Him. So be content, but not too content to where you won't let seasons go, you won't let them change. Don't place a season superior to God's plan. Let His plan flow the way He has planned it to. If it's time for that season to go or change, let it. Let go and let God. Change is necessary. Look back and reflect on some changes in your life that were hard for you to go through... now think about who you would be if those changes never took place? Keep your eyes fixed on what is permanent and don't allow the temporary to become an idol in your life. Our hope should be in Christ and in God's plan, if it's in what's temporary, all that awaits is disappointment and heartache. So for all the unexpected changes, curves, chapters, or seasons... let them change. Let them go. He has plan and it includes those changes. Don't cling to wavering things. Cling to the One who never wavers, who never changes, who is steadfast, sturdy, and secure.

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. Hebrews 13:8

Set your mind on things above :)
