The mind
A dangerously beautiful thing
Where you can run through a place called Imagination
And dance in the fields of Creativity
Where you can march to the caves of Fear
And trudge through the valleys of Chaos
A dangerously beautiful thing
The power for peace or stress
The control of emotions and reactions
The choice for love or war
The judge of reality and fantasy
The mind
It holds the beauty of blossoming thoughts
Or the darkness of deep valleys
There's a choice to be made
Give power to Peace
Or reign to Darkness
We have the power to choose who has the final say
Alpha and Omega
King of Kings
Creator
OR
Prince of the world
Father of lies
Ruler of darkness
The enemy loves to get control of our minds. Because if he can get us to believe we have no power over our minds, he has full control over everything. It starts as a thought and quickly deepens to more if we don't tame our thoughts. The world today is the best at numbing our minds, shutting off our filters. Controlling our minds, forcing us to surrender the remote. The prince of this world wants nothing more than to become lord of our thoughts, in doing that, he has full reign over our speech, actions, and hearts. It starts in our thoughts. For me, I was convinced for a long time that I had no power or say over my thoughts. That whatever my thoughts were just had to stay and I had to find a way to deal with them. My thoughts used to consume me and I felt like I was drowning. There seemed to be no escape. A verse that I must remind myself often is 2 Corinthians 10:5, "We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ."
The power is in us because of Christ. Because of Christ, our thoughts have Him and His Word to answer to. The world convinces us that our thoughts rule us and we must submit to that, God says, our thoughts require us to take them captive and make, force them to be obedient to Christ. Our flesh doesn't automatically submit to Christ, we must force our fleshly thoughts to submit to the authority of the Spirit and Christ. Your thoughts are not god, but they should be submitted to God. We have the authority to take captive and make obedient and to demolish arguments that don't align with God. The enemy loves to convince us that we have no power, no leg to stand on, no authority. But God. Because of Christ, we fight from victory, He has already won. We have all power and authority because of Christ and His victory that's already been secured. We have the choice to let our thoughts control us or let God control our thoughts. Social media, tv, music, news, these things consume our minds, daily. They tell us how we should live, look, speak, be a friend, be in a relationship. And we take all of it with a numb mind that just accepts whatever is coming in. We cannot lose the Word as our filter. The second the things we consume stop going through that Filter, we have lost our leg to stand on. Once we take something in, we must examine the thoughts. We must take every thought, filter it, and allow God's Word to speak the loudest over it. Is it a true thought? Is it a heavenly thought? Is it a destructive thought? Does this thought have the potential to steal, kill, and destroy my joy, peace, or gentleness (and the rest of the fruit of the Spirit)? If it doesn't align with the Word of God, it must bow in humble surrender to God's way. In this generation, our thoughts are the death of us. We believe every thought is truth, without ever truly examining it and holding it up to the Light. Seeing what's real and what's fake.
What should our thoughts look like?
"Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable- if anything is excellent or praiseworthy- think about such things."
-Philippians 4:8
Know the Word. Otherwise, it will be so much harder to distinguish godly thoughts from worldly ones. Know what He says. Know what He asks of you. Know what His voice sounds like. That is the way we defend ourselves. That's how Jesus defended Himself in the desert. The mind is such a gift and it has the power for so much creation, life, and newness. But it also has the power for destruction, evil, and death. Christ gives us all power and authority and He has given us our defense mechanism, His Word. The question is, will we use it?
Stop filling your mind with things that numb it and turn off filters, fill it with life, and power. So many things are craving for our attention and crawling to get hold of every thought. This is what makes the mind a dangerously beautiful thing.
