Creating Goliaths

Most of us know the story of David and Goliath right? David was pretty much a nobody, ended up taking Sauls spot as king, came to check on the Israelites in battle, and saw this Goliath of a man standing at around 9 feet 9 inches and David ended up saying he'd fight him, mind you David was much smaller than that, he picked up stones, didn't even take armor with him, and defeated Goliath. (1 Samuel 17)
David asked the men standing near him, “What will be done for the man who kills this Philistine and removes this disgrace from Israel? Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God?” 1 Samuel 17:26
What I love about David is that he didn't do this for his own personal gain, but rather, he did it defending God and His people. This man was disrespecting God and David hated that. What I also love is that he knew how powerful his God is and knew he had a much greater weapon. It also says later that David ran to the battle line, but all the other Israelites ran away from it in fear of Goliath.
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel. All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.” 1 Samuel 17:45-47
David teaches us many things, obviously this is a common story, but here's something this world is forgetting and has forgotten. Our God has no limits. Our God is not 9ft 8 and we can't fight our Goliath, because Goliath is 9ft 9in, no God has no limits. You cannot limit Him or His power. This is what the Israelites were doing though, they acted as if their God wasn't big enough, that their God was 9ft 8, and that their God just wasn't enough in general. And we are still doing this today. Fear of flying, germs, heights, spiders, these are some of the 10 greatest fears in the US since this year. I know some people fear death and I definitely know, especially more recently, that people fear viruses/sickness. Our world today creates our problems into Goliaths and makes our God as small as a grain of sand. And we begin to limit His power. Is the God who created the universe, the stars, the moon, sun, the God who created everything, the same God who conquered death, is He not big enough to handle your problem, situation, or fear? We begin to act as though our God is all of a sudden limited. You cannot limit something that is all powerful, all knowing, and everywhere all the time, thats just not possible to limit. Him and His power are LIMITLESS. Stop trying to shrink your God and minimize His power. Instead, boast about your God, boast that He is on your side, fight with Him as your weapon.
When I am afraid, I will trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I will not be afraid. What can mortal man do to me? Psalm 56:4-5
But Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control. 2 Timothy 2:17
Something cannot give power if it isn't powerful... from these verses you can see that God is powerful, all over the old testament, Gods power is seen, all over the new testament, Gods power is shown, Gods power is inevitable. We serve a powerful God, who is limitless, and has overcome the world (John 16:33) Stop limiting your God to be smaller than your problems, fears, worries, or situations, because He isn't.
What can mortal man do to Him? Nothing. What can man do without Him? Nothing. What can any fear do to Him? Nothing. We forget we serve a God that has already won and already overcome whatever you're dealing with. Instead of seeing our big God, we dwell on our small problems, and when we dwell on them, they become bigger than they really are, and we shrink God. Rather than shrinking our problems and magnifying our God, we shrink God and magnify our problems/issues/situations/fears/worries.
My friend, run with this today and for the rest of your life,
We serve a limitless and all powerful God, who doesn't shrink, or stand smaller than your problems, but He towers over it, and has already overcome it.
