A very very popular thing we do today is comparing ourselves to others, we compare everything, our looks, our skills, and our personalities. We all look for approval as well. Often times, when we seek approval and compare ourselves, we turn to social media. Social media, in this way, creates an overwhelming stress. When we go to social media for approval and don't get it, we become upset and disappointed in ourselves. But when we compare ourselves to others, we become chained to it. We cannot break free from it, unless we understand and grasp that we are who God has created us to be. Our value is not placed in how much better we are than someone, or how much prettier we are than someone. It is placed in Christ. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works;- Psalm 139:14. We each individually were made our own way. Some of us are athletic, others are not, and I could go on and on. We all have different skill sets. Stop comparing yourself, God wants you to live YOUR life, not someone else's, or comparing your life to someone else's. Comparison causes stress and chaos. You never are satisfied with who you are, you always feel like you need to change and be like that one specific person. You begin to feel as though you're not enough and you'll never measure up. Or you find yourself in a judging stage. A stage where you are prideful in yourself and no one can measure up to you. We were not made to compare, we were made for something so much greater. You may have heard people talk on the topic of comparison before, but truly ask yourself, and God if you're comparing yourself in anyway. There are many traps of comparison out in this world today. It could be comparing your house to someone else's, comparing your significant others, your friends, your relationships with people, your family, and it goes on and on. The Devil can turn pretty much anything into a comparison battle. Our skills can quickly become looked at as "not good enough." We are all given skills and some have the same ones, but are at different levels of it. When we compare our skills to others, ours become inadequate. This makes us feel as though we are not good enough and that we cannot do anything well. But when we find our worth in Christ, and realize we have a greater purpose, a peace overcomes us, and we are confident in ourselves and skills.
