Centered Catastrophe

A culture that is fixed on only thinking of ourselves. A culture that has coined phrases like: "you do you," "you feel how you want to feel," "your/my truth," and "love who you want." At first glance, the flesh is intrigued. But, as Christians, the Spirit tells us to take a second glance. Being in a culture and generation that is so SO fixated on self, creates ample opportunity for the devil to draw us away from God. There are things we all go through, day in and day out, and in each of those days, lies something that could become a focus. Focus: the center of interest or activity (Oxford Languages). The keyword there is CENTER. When we focus on something, it becomes the sun to our solar system (life), the focal point, THE thing, not just a thing. Christians must understand the danger of this generation and society. We are living in a society that is enamored with self and is very existentialistic. And we wonder why people have issues getting along with each other...

Not only is this "you do you" type culture affecting us in society, it's affecting our churches. As this is the "social norm" it is easier for churches to agree, rather than break apart the lies. In doing so, Christianity becomes something for us, rather than for Christ. This then leads to people becoming Christians, not to follow Christ, but because they believe the faith is about them. We are constantly told to look at this, look at that, go here, do this, all the while we aren't looking at the One who makes the world go 'round. You see, the more the enemy can get us to focus on ourselves, the more of a hold we allow him to have in our lives. Jesus lived a life to serve others and for His Father's glory. A servant is not self centered. Jesus was and is not self centered. In fact, being called to live like Christ means making sacrifices, The world says live for self, the Word says "die to self." It isn't about you, it never has been. The "you do you" phrase and lifestyle this world has adapted to is honestly a way to say, "do whatever you want, feel, or desire to, because it doesn't matter or no one can tell you otherwise." I also think a lot of Christians have accepted and used this phrase when someone, whether a believer or non believer, is living in sin and feels uncomfortable not supporting their decision. A culture with you at the center is a culture that has God on the back burner. A focus on you leads to selfish motives, ideas, and actions. Without Him, we stand apart, separated from Him. When we only look at ourselves, we remove God from the equation, the only One able to close the gap. I am not saying to never take time for or care for yourself. It becomes a problem when we are the focus and God is the blurred background. He is why we live. He is our purpose. He is where we find our identity. He is. It's not that feeling or that thought, it's Him, and it always will be Him. As Christians, we need to stop normalizing sin with the phrase "you do you." We need to be on guard and aware of this self centered generation. We need to dig into the Word for Truth, not yours or mine, THE Truth. In everything in the world today, God is the outcast, you are the insider. Since when was truth a yours or mine type thing? Truth is His truth. We must be sure we are equipped with it so that when the devil comes with half truths, we come with THE truth. When the enemy comes and attempts to indulge the flesh, the Spirit would frustrate his plans. We're in a mighty battle, and while He's already won, He wants you to be apart of slaying the enemies. But an ill equipped fighter won't make it very far.
