His Sovereignty

Sovereign: possessing supreme or ultimate power. Supreme. Absolute.

God is Sovereign. Above all things. Ruler of all things. Creation listens to the sound of His voice and in the end, every knee will bow at His command. We live in a world that hates sovereignty. We disengage from people who tell us how to live. But, to know the Lord is sovereign, that should bring all the comfort, peace, and contentment in any situation. I think the best thing and most comforting thing is that I cannot mess up His rule and reign. That while He desires my participation and submission to His authority, even when we choose to not submit, He still reigns. My submission, or lack thereof, doesn't rob Him of His authority. So, when we try to take the pen out of His hand, it doesn't make us the author. If I stole a paintbrush from a painter, it wouldn't make me an artist. There are techniques, different stroke types, paint types, and art types. There's knowledge and skill required (that I do not have) for me to be classified as an artist. The Lord has already proven He is sovereign, and it is true. My lack of submission or lack of agreeance with it, doesn't make it less true, or make Him any less sovereign. ALL things are His and ALL things are under His authority. Even the demons that Jesus put into the pigs were aware and under His authority and power (Matthew 8:28-34).

The enemy wants nothing more than for us to question the Lord's sovereignty in our lives. He wants us to wonder, does God really have everything in control? Is everything truly safe in His hands?

We live in a world that pushes worry, but worry questions His sovereignty. Worry is actually asking God...do you really have authority over this? Do you have the power to do that? Worry leaves us spiraling to a place of self-reliance and forces God into the margins.

I promise you, when you put it in His hands, it is the safest it will ever be. You are the safest you will ever be. He is Lord of all. Not some, not most. All. While our heart posture doesn't affect His authority, that doesn't mean He doesn't care about it. He wants us to want Him. He wants us to realize our need for Him. He wants us to surrender out of trust and not out of force, and I think He gives us all plenty of chances to surrender out of trust and faith first. But, whether it's out of trust or force, we cannot mess up His plan. He knows what decisions we will make and He has already planned accordingly. There is nothing outside of His knowledge, His power, or His authority. The same God who commands the sun to rise and set, who fills our lungs with breath, who tells our hearts to beat, and the birds to sing, that is the One who holds every detail of your life. He knows. Trust His sovereignty. Everything is safe in His hands. Give Him your all, so He can give you His all. His best.

Chaos abounds

Darkness lurks

Worry remains

But did you forget?

The King is still on His throne

The Kingdom still on mission

Did you forget?

The King will be arriving

Be alert

Did you forget?

He overcame the world

Overcame death

Overcame evil

And will do it again

He's coming

The things of this world

Will continue to grow strangely dim

Press on, the waiting is worth it

In His presence,

All will cry

Holy! Holy! Holy!

He is still on His throne

Shout,

Holy! Holy! Holy!

"Holy! Holy! Holy!"
