Empty Foundations

A society that changes it's pursuits and foundations, constantly. Where if our pursuits stay pure and constant, we are ridiculed. I've found that the ones with the strongest foundation, the greatest prize waiting for them at the end of their race, are the ones who are least shaken when trials come. They are the ones who know where their priorities are set and know they cannot be negotiated. When our priorities are correctly aligned, our foundation secure, and eyes fixed on the right prize, our life may shake, but we are upheld. We live in a society that pursues a plethora of things and people. Their whole lives are constantly built upon different foundations. It's this thing, then this one. Yet, they act as though every new trend, hobby, addiction, etc. is THE thing, but after the momentary pleasure wears off, it's just another thing.

The issue with a lot of Christians is they may believe in God, they may be in, but are they all in? Is God THE thing or just another thing? You see, it's easy to say we're Christians, but it's hard to live that out. Especially in a world that says you need this thing, and this one, then this one, but you can't just have one thing. In a world focused on the idea that many things is better, the Word says, One thing, that's all you need. With all the distractions the world has to offer and encourages, it can be easy to get lost in all the things and make God just another one. But, He needs to be THE thing. Our first priority, the prize our eyes are fixed on at the end of our race, our foundation. We must make Him our center and let everything else circulate around Him. If He's not the reason, then what's the point? All the other things we build our lives upon will crumble. They may bring pleasure, but only momentarily, and then, all they bring are unstable lives, no purpose worth running for, and no center for everything else to surround. I've made people THE thing, I've made things THE thing, every time, I'm left feeling more empty, when I expected to be filled. The world doesn't sell fullness, it sells emptiness disguised as fulfillment.

"The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." -John 10:10

The thief (the devil) is considered the prince of the world, he does not sell fulfillment, but the opposite. He only comes to take. Emptiness successfully sold, leaves the consumer more disappointed and hollow. Keeping God as THE thing allows us to be in alignment with Him. When He is our foundation, no matter the waves, rain, or wind, we can come out on the other side even stronger. But when anything else is our foundation, every tiny wave, mist of rain, and little breeze leaves us having to rebuild our lives.

"For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light."

-1 Corinthians 3:11-12
